He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and has held research and faculty positions at Harvard Medical School, Northeastern University, and The Ohio State University before joining National Chung Cheng University, where he has been serving as Professor since 2008. His research focuses on biomolecular recognition using Surface Plasmon Resonance and Quartz Crystal Microbalance, combinatorial organic synthesis for natural products and protein inhibitors, and the application of ionic liquids in chemical and biochemical systems. He has made significant contributions to advancing chemical biology and molecular interaction studies.

John Tharakan, Ph.D., is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Howard University. With an impressive educational background, he obtained his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1982. Continuing his academic pursuits, he pursued his MS in Engineering Science with a specialization in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, California, in 1983. Dr. Tharakan further enhanced his expertise by completing his Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering at the same institution in 1986. Dr. Tharakan’s research interests are wide-ranging, encompassing various areas such as Kinetics and Reactor Design, Environmental Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioenvironmental Engineering, Engineering Education, Sustainable Development, Appropriate Technology, and Ethics in Science and Engineering. His dedication to these fields is evident through his numerous contributions to academia and research. Joseph E. Stiglitz is an American economist and a professor at Columbia University. He is also the co-chair of the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress at the OECD, and the Chief Economist of the Roosevelt Institute. Stiglitz was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001 and the John Bates Clark Medal in 1979. He is a former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank and a former chair of the U.S. Council of Economic Advisers.
